By the way, I can’t help but observe how the image you used is kind of similar to the Truman Show’s ending. Great juxtaposition since its ending is also about stepping out of the identity the world and you have built for yourself and express yourself freely.
Thanks for reading, and the feedback and insight. It really made my day! Funny you say that btw. Once I’d written the piece, I realised it was very much like the Truman show. I nearly used the same image of him walking up the stairs. Boy, what a great film huh? The image I used hit me because of the wooden sticks keeping him stuck, but also the fact that behind him is literally a brick wall, and all the that’s separating him from freedom is the wooden bars… freedom FEELS like stepping out and free falling to death. Which is why it’s so hard for people to do.
appreciate you jeff, the honest feedback and taking the time to read even it. means alot. the screenplay is gathering digital dust right now, but once i finish building some business things i’ll finish it off and get it in front of someone! what’re you working on?
That is one brilliant article Dan.

Amazing coincidence if it was one.

Oooooh the digital marketer hustle cult. How I dont miss it one bit.
Appreciate your candor and reflection. I think your instincts are spot on. we’re in the middle of a sea change around digital presence.
Stoked to see how this evolves for you. U got skills.
So…
… what happened to the screenplay?

In a similar place as you. Recently started a new biz with a friend, and building that up from zero takes up time and energy.
But the real work?
That's here on substack and in music.
Slowly finding my way back to my artist self after an extended side quest through marketing and copy.
On Substack, it's about rediscovering my own voice after a decade of writing in other people's. I'm in the messy phase of that process.
My first love, though, is and always will be music.
I have dozens of instruments, 100s of half-finished tracks.
